State of Public Education?

This story contains one of the most depressing things I’ve ever heard someone in education say (it’s near the end). Basically, a valedictorian,

in a detailed speech that referenced philosphers and ethics principles, referred to his education as “entirely hollow.”

The principal of this ‘school’, who stopped the speech early on later opined:

“My hope was they did not hear or understand what he was saying.”

It blows my mind. Then again, this is coming from a guy [me] who doesn’t much appreciate any censoring. If the school wanted to hear how great of a job they’re doing, they should simply write the speeches themselves (and maybe the principal should speek instead). Here’s part of the speech.
