Meet Hagi and Mark, a regular pair on the street corner who talked a bit about their families abroad, about their belief in Jesus, and about the local politics. When Havi mentioned mentioned all his family abroad, I foolishly pointed out that they must like to travel. He quickly responded, “What would you do if your lands and homes were taken from you?” They went on to say that they belong to the land. I explained my own family’s tendency to stay put, but suggested that perhaps it was God above and our relationships, our families, that we should belong to, not the land.
