The Dome is near omnipresent in Jerusalem. Its height and exquisite beauty set it apart from much of the city and stand as a tribute to its Umayyad builders. The gold plated aluminum dome is a draw to many photographers and the location itself (being built on the site of the Jewish Temple) is a draw to many others. Whether you’re talking to an Orthodox Jew who prays slightly off center when at the wall to remember that they are truly oriented to the location of the Holy of Holies or a Muslim here to honor the place where God took Mohammad into heaven, every square inch of this space matters.
And it’s not a bad place to relax during the summer heat.
