The Church of the Holy Nativity is one of the three churches Helena, Constantine’s mother, established in Israel during the fourth century. The other two mark Christ’s death, resurrection, and ascension. Unlike the others, the Nativity church is one of the oldest churches still standing that has been in continuous use. I’m told that the Palestinian Christians requested aid from the West when this church came under threat. The West responded by calling up the Crusades. The church was saved in the end, though other issues did arise.
